Nitrous Oxide | « Education Center
Nitrous Oxide also called “laughing gas” is used to help your child relax during any operative procedure. It is helpful because it decreases anxiety and increase pain threshold which allows some procedures to be completed without anesthetic (numbing).
If your child requires a longer procedure, then nitrous oxide will keep them calm and will make time go quickly.
Nitrous does not induce sleep, your child will be alert but remain calm. At the end of the procedure, your child will be placed on 100% oxygen for 5 minutes during which they will breathe off the nitrous oxide completely.
Sometimes, although rarely, your child may experience mild nausea. Overall, it is creates a positive experience for your child. We do not charge a fee for Nitrous Oxide.
