Cosmetic grills may be in fashion by those in the media i.e. rappers and may appear to be cool, but there is a health cost that may not be so obvious.  The grills can do harm to the gum tissue and underlying bone structure that support teeth because they create food and plaque traps.  It can also alter your bite depending on the length of time you wear them and they can create forces on your teeth that are not biocompatible with health.  Any undue force can start to shift teeth.

Whether the grills are removable or permanent, they create a place where food can get trapped.  Trapped food provides a haven for bacteria which causes dental decay.
